The Future Is Now

Momentous change is approaching in American politics. Conceivably, the turning point has already arrived, too indistinct to recognize. We are witnessing the demise of the reigning economic ideology.

A deep shift of this kind is a very rare event, one that comes along only every thirty or forty years.

Economic disorders accumulate that the orthodoxy cannot answer and may even have caused. Eventually, the ideological presumptions are discredited by real-world contradictions.

The last time this happened was in the 1970s, when economic liberalism foundered and collapsed. Ossified intellectually, unable to adjust to changed circumstances, the liberal order did not know how to deal with economic consequences like inflationary stagnation. As the long postwar prosperity lost its energy, so did liberal politics.

Something similar is happening now to the Republicans. Their problem is the underperforming economy, which must borrow to stay afloat and, roughly speaking, lifts only half the boats. The conservative order--inspired two generations ago by Milton Friedman and Friedrich von Hayek and brought to power by Republican ascendancy--pushed government aside so business and capital would be free to generate more lasting prosperity. But their utopian promise was not fulfilled. Instead, the right's principal product, one can say, was economic inequality.

The breakdown won't necessarily produce an immediate shift in power. When the bottom fell out of liberal doctrine thirty years ago, what first unfolded was confusion and political paralysis, then an awkward retreat by the Democrats until they were finally displaced by the aggressive new conservatives under Ronald Reagan. But it does mean that Republicans have lost the political cohesion to advance their more extreme measures (privatizing Social Security, freeing capital entirely of taxation).

More to the point, the way is now open for alternative thinking: the new ideas that can lead to a new governing order. These ideas must be grounded in a determination to give people back their future. The strange paradox of our times is that despite America's fabulous wealth, most people's lives are shadowed by economic anxieties and real confinements, the wounds that market ideology has imposed.

They fear that much worse is ahead for their children. Reform must re-establish this fundamental principle: The economy exists to support society and people, not the other way around. Only government can liberate them from the harsh rule of the marketplace, the demands imposed by capital and corporations that stunt or stymie the full pursuit of life and liberty in this complex industrial society. This very wealthy country has the capacity to insure that all citizens, regardless of status or skills, have the essential needs to pursue secure, self-directed lives. This starts with the right to health, work, livable incomes and open-ended education, and to participate meaningfully in the decisions that govern their lives. The marketplace has no interest in providing these. It is actively destroying them.

A coherent alternative agenda that will fulfill these principles does not yet exist. Nor will a liberal-progressive program emerge miraculously if the Democratic Party should somehow regain power in the next few years, since many Democrats in Congress have internalized the market ideology and collaborate with the right. But elements of that alternative agenda are already ripe for discussion...

I am very grateful for the effort and expense made and paid to get down here, and I very much enjoyed the visit.

I'm sure that after 48 hours down in Toostoned, it must have been hard for the 3 wisemen to rehearse songs as their alter-egos,

...so that a day later they could provide amplified entertainment for the House of Mole party in the Valley of the Spun.

Dear corrupt Congress:

Repeal the death tax? You mean what used to be called the "estate" tax? You mean what used to be called the "inheritance" tax? You mean the tax which only affects the richest 1 percent of Americans? And you want to cut benefits for the other 99 percent of Americans to pay for it? That makes sense. And that sounds fair. Oh, these poor little rich billionaires... They don't want to pay back their fair share to society. Isn't it society that provides the enforcement of contract laws...so that these disgustingly rich crybabies can make money off the rest of us in the first place? Isn't it society that provides the law enforcement...which protects these rich crybabies from being tarred, feathered and robbed by the masses? Poor little rich crybabies want a free ride, it seems. It seems these free market believers need a little government intervention...to give them more obscene tax cuts...and to provide them with the laws to exploit the masses...and the police force to protect their excessive lifestyles and treasure.

Repeal the death tax? Hell, no. Repeal all the obscene Bush tax cuts for these undeservedly rich freeloading scumbags. I don't mean that all rich people are scumbags. Just the ones who aren't content with the past 5 years of unnecessary tax cuts,...and still want more.

Why is it that the rich don't feel the need to pay back to society for all the benefits they derive from it?

This is why I like Bill Gates, Sr.,...and the wealthy who feel it's their duty to give back to society,...with gratitude.

What you're looking at is a want ad for temps to move around voting machines on the day of California's upcoming primary election. You know, those "tamper proof" voting machines that ensure us fair elections. Harrumph.

So much for those vaunted claims by California's Sec. of State Bruce McPherson and his partners at Diebold, Inc. about increased security surrounding the physical access to electronic voting machines in light of newly revealed vulnerabilities to easy tampering...

Several recent independent analyses of Diebold's electronic voting machines (both optical-scan and touch-screen systems) have revealed that physical access to machines allows a malicious individual to easily alter, or completely replace, all data, voting software and operating system on the machines or their memory cards in a matter of minutes.

As always, Brad Friedman has much, much more. If we ever do have fair elections again in this country, we will owe no one a greater thanks than Brad. Period.

On a positive note, we worked hard to save Welfare, fix Social Security and, of course, provide the free universal health care we all enjoy today.

But, all this came at a high cost. As I speak, the gigantic national budget surplus is down to a perilously low $11 trillion dollars.

And, don't get any ideas. That money is staying in the very successful lockbox.

We're not touching it.

Of course, we could give economic aid to China, or lend money to the Saudis...again.

But right now we're already so loved by everyone in the world that American tourists can't even go over to Europe anymore...without getting hugged.

There are some of you that want to spend our money on some made-up war.

To you I say: what part of "lockbox" don't you understand?

What if there's a hurricane or a tornado? Unlikely I know, because of the Anti-Hurricane and Tornado Machine I was instrumental in helping to develop.

But,...what if? What if the scientists are right and one of those giant glaciers hits Boston?

That's why we have the lockbox!

As for immigration, solving that came at a heavy cost, and I personally regret the loss of California.

However, the new Mexifornian economy is strong, and el Presidente Schwarznegger is doing a great job.

There have been some setbacks. Unfortunately, the confirmation process for Supreme Court Justice Michael Moore was bitter and divisive. However, I could not be more proud of how the House and Senate pulled together to confirm the nomination of Chief Justice George Clooney.

Baseball, our national pastime, still lies under the shadow of steroid accusations. But, I have faith in baseball commissioner George W. Bush when he says, "We will find the steroid users if we have to tap every phone in America!"

In 2001, when I came into office, our national security was the most important issue.

The threat of terrorism was real.

Who knew that six years later, Afghanistan would be the most popular Spring Break destination? Or that Six Flags Tehran is the fastest growing amusement park in the Middle East?

And the scariest thing we Americans have to fear is ... Live From New York, its Saturday Night!

of cell phone towers and giant chain stores are also ruled to be illegal discrimination
against corporate persons.

WE KNOW that a corporation is not a person. It is a legal abstraction without
conscience or moral capacity.

WE KNOW that We the People, through our state governments, create corporations.
It is, therefore, the right and responsibility of We the People to instruct corporations
as to what they may do and how they may do it.

first hooked up as songwriting partners six years ago, and since 2000 they've hosted MUZIK MAFIA

.......(Musically Artistic Friends in Alliance), an eclectic weekly jam session that continues to draw huge crowds every Tuesday in Nashville.

"Big Kenny really softened me up," says Rich, the son of a guitar-playing Texas preacher and a former member of the pop-country outfit Lonestar. Alphin (Rich calls him the "Universal Minister of Love") is a Virginia-bred cowboy hippie who supports the decriminalization of pot, wants people to say "love" as often as "terrorism" and is happy to tell you that on a busy day at his dad's ranch he "had my arm up at least 100 cows' asses pullin' out calves."

The two have shared stages with good friend Kid Rock, but Rich's favorite celebrity story involves a less likely compadre. "I went to a songwriters camp three years ago," he says. "My roommate was Nikki Sixx. He says, 'I think Motley Crue played a show in your hometown back in the Eighties.' I said, 'You did. My dad was convinced that you guys were Satan worshippers, and he drug a cross around the Amarillo Civic Center the entire concert.' His eyes bugged out, and he goes, 'That was your dad?'"

You can’t change the world, but if you think about it:

if you made something, you’ve changed the world.

It wasn’t there before, then you made it; now it’s there.

A lot of people need to amend

their “you can’t change the world” philosophy

and not look at it so idealistic

and so absurdly heroic.

Homeless Man Returns Wallet With $900

A homeless man searching through garbage bins for recyclable cans found a missing wallet and had it returned to its owner.

Kim Bogue, who works as a janitor in the city's government buildings, realized that her wallet was missing last week and doubted she'd ever get back the $900 and credit cards inside, she said.

"I prayed that night and asked God to help me," said Bogue, who was saving the money for a trip to her native Thailand.

Days later, a homeless man found the wallet wrapped in a plastic bag in a trash bin, where Bogue had accidentally thrown it away with her lunch. He gave it to Sherry Wesley, who works in a nearby building.

"He came to me with the wad of money and said, 'This probably belongs to someone that you work with, can you return it,'" Wesley said.

Workers at a nearby relief kitchen said the man, who didn't want to be identified, insists on paying for his food.

"He has a very good heart," said Bogue, who gave the man a $100 reward. "If someone else found it, the money would be gone."

OPERATION: MINDCRIME II

...is thefollow-up to Queensrÿche's 1988 original release, Operation: Mindcrime.

The first single and video, "I'm American" was released on March 14, 2006.

The band has said that the album will be a chronologically correct sequel to its predecessor, taking place 18 years later after the protagonist Nikki was imprisoned, and will mainly revolve around his thoughts of revenge.

The story begins 18 years after the events of Operation: Mindcrime.

Nikki, imprisoned for the murder of Sister Mary, is released from prison. He still harbors resentment against what he views as a totally corrupt government. The training (or brainwashing) he received from Dr. X still has a strong hold over Nikki, but he still conflicted. While he still feels the need to carry out his revolutionary mission, his thoughts drift to Mary. Nikki then starts to think about killing Dr. X.

As the final confrontation with Dr. X gets closer, Nikki starts to have doubts.
He questions himself and wonders if it isn’t really his own fault that his life is as bad as it is. Nikki does finally track down Dr. X, but has doubts about killing him. (Although he seems to actually kill Dr. X, it is not explicitly stated in the lyrics or played out in the songs). He gets no satisfaction from killing Dr. X, but rather feels just as (if not more) empty as ever.
The ghost of Mary appears, and appears to take pity on Nikki over the fact that revenge has not brought him any peace.
He is later confronted by the ghost of Mary, who angrily exhorts Nikki to kill himself. It is unclear, however, if it is actually her or just Nikki imagining her. He starts to think that he is insane, and contemplates suicide.
As the album ends, Nikki reflects that the only times he was happy was when he was with Mary...

A love of punk and hard rock anthems by The Clash and Led Zeppelin reportedly led to a British man being hauled off a plane bound for London by police on terrorism fears.

Indian-born Harraj Mann, 23, played "London's Calling" by The Clash and Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" through the stereo of a taxi he caught to Durham and Tees Valley Airport in northern England.

The taxi driver, however, grew suspicious of his passenger after listening to the lyrics of his chosen songs and alerted the authorities after they reached the airport.

Two police officers boarded Mann's flight to London's Heathrow airport shortly before take-off last Thursday.

I'm thinking 'bout writing a poem of sorts. Just gotta work out the rhyme.

The poem involves "pig saviours", "intentional daily bungling",

"fear pimping", "breaking non-news", and how every day is opposite day.

And, of course,... the poem must be positive.
